The ground shakes beneath our feet, quaking felt in the distance of a tremor building in strength now.

Shifting tectonic plates beneath us, as the waves of destruction or simply change and evolution rise to meet us. A warning sent out. An advisory of what’s to come. Fear building. Momentum peaking. A humming in the air spikes. The mana of the earth mama is shifting quicker now, as tampering and tinkering continues with her, weaponizing the forces of nature against our own humanity.

Flood waters rush in, wiping away the innocence of children asleep in their beds. Tragedy unfolds on the collective playing field at large. Earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, hurricanes scoring the top news stories lately as multiple places on the planet face potential disasters.

Sometimes the wave comes in actual destruction and other times, grace appears to show us that the wave of purging is happening on an emotional level as we release layers of fear and remember the power of prayer and our connection to something larger.

How to keep calm and remain hopeful in the turbulent waters of continuous change, catastrophe in mind’s eye of the human, and impending collapse of structures that once brought us safe keeping? A blink of the eye and we vanish like vapor from this reality. No one truly knows when they will take their last breath until the exhale meets the wind. So what must we do while straddling the wire, teetering on the precipice between life and death? Live, Live, and live. Bravely, boldly, fervently. Rebelliously. Standing naked with life, we proclaim, “We are here to become more alive and free! So have your way with me.”

In the words of the now deceased and beloved, cherished, celebrated, adored, and deeply honored poet and activist for marginalized communities who are queer or mental illness fighters and survivors, Andrea Gibson spoke the words we were afraid to utter: 

“Friend, if the only thing we have to gain in staying is each other,
my god that is plenty
my god that is enough
my god that is so so much for the light to give
each of us at each other’s backs
whispering over and over and over,
‘Live. Live. Live.'”

So live we must. In the face of impending doom and disaster, we must keep living. Opened bare and heart exposed to the elements of life. Cracked open by the horrors and atrocities, deeper now into love for humanity and self. Andrea was a voice of the people. A voice of the broken. A voice of the healing. A voice for the voiceless. A voice for the unyielding, unrelenting life force within us. Those who were lucky enough to know their impact feel the ripple effect now of grief, loss, and yet a deep knowing that their words and healing light lives on in our hearts. For so many, Andrea gave them a reason to keep living, despite the pain and trauma we’ve endured. A voice of one to speak for many.

Though Andrea’s solar energy was infused with the light of the sun through the darkness, a true creative spirit of that Leo fire, they also indirectly embodied the opposing energy of Leo, a mission and life purpose of the Aquarian soul, to use their voice to help free and liberate humanity, to unite the hearts of all together as one. We honor them and we thank them from the depths of our being for reminding us how to live and how to choose life and joy in the midst of darkness.

This is the energy we are walking as we make our way through Leo season and approach the full moon in Aquarius on August 9 at 3:54 a.m. EST and at 17 degrees of the fixed air sign. Emerging from the depths of the Cancerian waters, from deep emotional purging, past wounds resurfacing, familial patterns and cycles seen in new light, our hearts feel a little lighter for the wear perhaps if we’ve been doing the emotional tending to and nurturing of the emotional self with great care and tenderness.

Leo season invites us deeper now into the heart space, ruler and activator of the heart channel, the defibrillator energy to zap us awake again. To ignite the heart’s magic and wisdom and remind us of the power of our eternal ember, flame, and flicker of the God spark within. The inner Creative Source. Reclaiming our Creator purpose, and reconnecting with the Creator of it all. We remember that the light we carry is so very precious. Unique and un-replicable. Our light cannot be duplicated in the ways in which it wants to speak, move, dance, and express its way through us. Though we are all tied together by the Light of Consciousness, our unique fingerprint of God remains.

Leo season is a welcomed celebration of the light within us all. Leo energy is ruled by the sun. Without the sun how would there be life? The sun gives life to all that it touches. Leo energy is the creative, wild, untamed inner child. The authentic self. The bold spirit. Leo energy connects us deeply to the creative channel within us, as the conduit of that energy to express outwardly in the world. Leo energy can look externally for that praise and feedback from others to validate its worthiness of taking up space and shining its light and sharing its gifts. But a Leo that shines and is seen is a fire that’s ignited through all who witness the flame being lit. How deeply we all desire to be seen. Truly seen. And yet, seeing ourselves is a part of being seen by others. Unburying the fears of what it means to be seen, if there remains any wounds of rejection. Rejection from others mirrors back to us our own patterns of self-rejection or trying to bypass our inner alignment and truth to remain in connection with the other.

Leo energy says, “No more shrinking or stifling of your voice! No more pretending to be small and without your power. No more waiting for someone to light you up. You hold the match. It’s time to be the authentic you!”

Aquarius energy as its counter reminds us that though we shouldn’t outsource our power or light to another as the source of our light, another’s light, much like Andrea’s did, can reignite and reflect back our own light and remind us how to keep that flame lit. Because as much as we are on our own individual journeys (Leo), we are here to be a part of the collective change (Aquarius). And it is our duty and responsibility to tend to our own inner light so we can be of service to the collective Light.

This full moon in Aquarius reminds us of this truth of our human existence. That the fate of humanity truly does rest upon our shoulders to awaken to the truth of who and what we are as divine beings. Aquarius energy is the humanitarian, the rebel, the rule-breaker, the against-the-grain-shaker, the innovator and soul liberator. Aquarius energy is not from this planet. If you’ve met or know an Aquarius sun, you’ll know this other worldly energy, one that is alien in the best of ways, a foreigner to planet earth but a welcomed and necessary member of the human clan, here to help us awaken to our uniqueness, shake us out of stagnation and complacency, and call us to change and care for each other as if our lives and the livelihood of planet earth depended upon it.

Aquarius energy is usually an activist in some way, calling us to action for the greater good of humanity. Aquarius energy can be infiltrated by the collective and think-mind, group-mind mentality, though, so it is imperative that we always check our channel to truth and where we are sourcing our information from. Is it from the collective programming bent on fear and separation? Or are we connecting to the love we are that is bigger and truer?

Aquarius energy is ruled by Saturn and Uranus. Two opposing planetary energies, Saturn governs our foundations, structures, karma, our responsibilities, and this 3D reality; Uranus shakes sh*t up. Rattles the cages of our foundational security. Uranus is the shockwave, the earthquake, the electrical current zapping us awake. The energy of the soul call to change, innovate, and self-liberate. These two planets will be ruling this full moon. A dichotomy of energies to shift and shape us into new form. Both planets have just moved into their new signs, Saturn into Aries for the next two years and Uranus now in Gemini for the next eight years. Saturn in Aries is a new foundational start. A brand new beginning of self. A call to bravely and courageously build something new that actually supports and aligns with the self we are becoming. Uranus in Gemini is an innovation of the mental plane. A nervous system frenzy of energy that can easily spin itself out into a tizzy. Gemini is fast moving energy and Uranus is here to shake our minds awake from stagnation and complacency. The invitation to rewrite and reprogram our mental loops. Get free from our limiting mental loops. Innovate the ways in which we think, speak, and connect with others.

The mind has gone underground for the last few weeks, though, alongside this full moon energy, as Mercury moves through its tri-annual retrograde in the sign of Leo from July 17 to August 11. Mercury retrograde in Leo is a time to review and reflect upon our relationship to our creative fire, to our inner light, and to our courageous hearts. To rewrite any mental stories bent on us shrinking our authentic self. To see the ways in which we are still hiding our power in fear of fully owning and embodying it. Mercury in Leo points us to any hidden passions and desires we are still withholding from ourselves out of fear. A time to go within and resurrect the creative spark and our passions that we’ve put on the back burner for a later date.

This Leo energy is strongly activated here from the Leo new moon we had on July 24, exactly opposite to Pluto in Aquarius. Self-transformation is the name of the game. And doing so in a way that activates our creativity. To allow the self to be transformed through the fires of creating an entirely new version of self, but one that is ancient and authentic. To know that even if we are being asked to continuously shed old parts and stories of self, we are still actively creating the new as we go. Pluto adds the pressure and the intensity. Leo brings the creation energy. Can we create and be in the power of our inner creator during times of great intensity, change, and transformation? And where are we sourcing our creation energy from? Fear or love? That is always a point of inner inquiry to ask. And re-align if need be.

Because even if resistance to change comes up (and it will), aligning with love rather than fear will always reconnect us back to our true purpose and intention. This new moon highlighted the ego/soul tension we might be feeling right now. The smaller ego mind and shadow of Leo shows us why we continue to play it safe and stay identified with our ego structures in how we make money in the world and how we show up in the world—where our ego is gripping tighter to false structures of safety and outsourcing our power to systems that deplete, drain, and limit us. But, Pluto, ruler of the soul, says, “Face you fears, and you will find your true power.” So as much as we want to turn away, the light of the sun reminds us to face our fears head-on. Take the journey that frightens the living daylight out of you. Take the wild quest of the soul and know that on the other side of facing your fears is a truer source of your power. To remember who it is we came here to be. Bold. Powerful. Creators.

We have five planetary energies now in retrograde: Mercury, Pluto, Neptune, Saturn, and Chiron. The next few weeks and months will be a review and reassess period. A time to review our soul’s mission now. Where we are outsourcing our power still to fear? A spiritual deep sea diving journey back into truest self, to remember the source from which we came, to connect deeper with our dreams and visions. To reassess the structures and foundations. Are they ones aligned with the old self or the new self? Adding the karmic pressure, bringing up any karmic energies we need to suss out still. The wounding of the self on repeat. How to remember it’s all here for us? Retrogrades offer a cosmic reset energy for us. A time of realignment if we’ve gotten misaligned. Though there can be growing pains, frustrations, and irritations at times, this energy is here to help get our energy right and aligned.

This full moon in Aquarius is here to support us in that soul mission. Uranus will be trine to Pluto, granting us deeper opportunity to liberate the self from fear back into our own power. A time where self-transformation sends shockwaves through our system, which can often feel like fear. Uranus says, “Get free.” Pluto says, “For sake of the soul.” Mercury will be sextile to Mars, enhancing the energy of taking balanced action on our creatively inspired ideas. Mercury will be trine to Saturn and Neptune, emphasizing the need for our creatively inspired ideas to have a spiritual foundation to land in. Our minds will be lit up with spiritual activations if we open to the creative channel within and bring it into tangible form. Mercury opposite to Pluto here adds some tension and challenge, to show us where our minds are still being run and governed by fear programming. Venus in Cancer now makes a conjunction to Jupiter also in Cancer, adding a bit of softness to our hearts and relationships, but also sensitivity here too. We might feel some expanded energy around our heart space and emotional channel, through the lens of our relationships with others. The past comes back up and shows us where there is still unloved hurt and pain we are holding onto.

Jupiter in Cancer is still expanding us, for better or worse. Our sensitivities and emotional vulnerabilities continue to feel extra loud. Our defensiveness and self-protectiveness from outside attack ramped up a bit. How we relate to others’ hearts and wounds is especially activated here too. Sometimes, it the most loving thing we can do is to love another from afar. And in that distance and separation, know that love is still holding it all.

Because Leo energy points us back to the self always. If we get too lost and mired in forcing others to change or believing the world needs to change first before we change, then we have already lost and they have already won. We can’t force change upon anyone. We can’t force someone to awaken to the darkness of the world before they have awakened to their light. Or coerce someone to awaken to the light before they have been initiated into darkness. It’s not up to us. It never was. Each soul has a plan and a path and we must release illusory control mechanisms that try to manipulate others and our reality to be different. No, the change begins within the self. So we must start with the self. And that is not selfish, but a sacred duty. For as much as we care about others, we must care to awaken our own hearts to love by purging and purifying the pain we’ve held our light hostage to.

For as much as the global atrocities continue to make their mark on this world as we undergo a collective and systemic collapse and transformation we’ve never seen before in our lifetime, we must hold tight to faith over fear. That the breakdown is truly the breakthrough to freedom. Freedom of our hearts and our minds. Reawakening of the creative mind and heart so we can birth a whole new paradigm and reality. This full moon awakens us to the possibility of more. More zest. More juice. More newness. More change. More excitement. More energy toward that new beginning by releasing the deadened weight of old.

Let the light of this full moon initiate you deeper into your soul truth and path. Into reclaiming your authentic self-expression and inner light. For stepping outside the lines of fear conformity and choosing brave boldness. Taking the journey that frightens and ignites you. To know that change is here for us. To know that when we are about to grow the most and beyond our current energetic state or capacity is when the fear bubbles up as if to say, “About to grow!” So grow we must. And live we must. Change is growth and growth means something has to change. It’s just change, which means we are growing all along.

Let this full moon remind you of these truths. That we are here to awaken our rebellious hearts. Let this full moon ignite you deeper into faith of what is and what is to come for you. That all is truly here for us, to awaken deeper to love.

to know the darkness

So hold up your telescope and see the light of your true cosmic nature becoming more you. That even in the hurt of becoming, we become something entirely new. New life. New. Self. Here. To. Awaken. Our. Creative. Channel. And. Birth. New. Timelines. Of. Heart. Activation. We. Are. The. Conduits. Of. God. Divine. Energy. Within. Us. Connecting. Us. To. The. Light. In. Others. Awaken. Awaken. Awaken. Inspire. Respire. Expire to the old self. And. Watch. Your. True. Light. Flourish. Once. More. Aho. Amen. And so it is.
