This is for all the mothers,
who, like me,
carry the weight of guilt for all that we couldn’t be.
For all that we weren’t and for all that we were.
This is for those mothers,
like me, who still feel it—
the reminders of how we left permanent marks on souls,
while others walked free.
This is for those mothers who still collect the pain and carry it.
This is for those mothers who hold remorse,
for not being more,
for not standing up against the bullies who sought to win.
This is for all the mothers who brought life into the world
when they were just girls—
girls who survived a war,
who endured the starvation of body and soul, and worse
before they believed in themselves,
before they understood their worth,
before they healed their own pain.
This is for you.
This is for those mothers who didn’t know the right thing to do
in a world where everything felt wrong.
This is for those mothers who carry the blame
for all that wasn’t good
in a place that was challenging from the start.
Happy Mother’s Day.
I see you.
I celebrate you.
I am you.
