12 Ways to Unf*ck Your Life.

“OMG…f*ck my life!”

Who hasn’t heard this expression?

It’s crass, yes, but we get it, don’t we? We’ve all been there. We tend to feel this way when things go awry. When life hands us lemons, and we can’t seem to make lemonade.

How can we get out of our own way to reveal a path of clarity and contentment? Seriously, how can we “unf*ck” our lives to live with happier, lighter hearts?

We can unf*ck our lives in 12 ways:

1. How about we lose the damn baggage once and for all? You know what I’m talking about. People, clutter, self-inflicted obligations. There are so many things that slow us down and prevent us from feeling happy. We keep waiting for things to change, yet the biggest and most beneficial change we can make is cutting loose all that does not serve us. Cleaning out the clutter is an instant mood and energy boost. Why? It makes us feel unburdened and more focused on the things that matter. Try the simple exercise of mercilessly getting rid of every item of clothing you don’t actually wear (ever!), as well as every product you don’t use. Be honest about it. You’ll probably have barely anything left because, quite simply, barely anything is all you actually need or use.

2. Work out or just move your body purposefully at the same time every day, 95 percent of the time. Life happens and no one’s perfect, but man, consistency is the biggest rule if we want to win the fitness game.

3. We can stop drinking (so much). We can do the moderation thing. Seriously. Two beers, not four. One night a week, not three. Our body, mind, and soul will thank us.

4. How about appreciating this very day, however it shows up? So often we live in the past (or the future) and we do not savor the moment directly in front of us. We think about what we’re doing after work, or basking in the memory of something we did long ago. The day is here, it’s now, and it’s never coming back. Living in the present is great way to unf*ck our lives.

5. Stop buying sh*t off Instagram. How often do we get sucked into the masterful marketing of Instagram Influencers? I’d love to say I don’t, but that would be a lie. I’ve ended up with a bunch of crap that doesn’t work or produce results, and in turn will eventually be thrown away (see #1). We can unf*ck our finances (along with our lives) if we stop consuming the snake oil.

6. Pick a skill or a new hobby and go at it full force. Put lots of time and energy into it. Get good. Get really good. Be proud of being good at it. Learn something new and enjoy the process of repetition, mistakes, progress, and triumph.

7. Meditation, yoga, spirituality… Journaling. Self-reflection and self-help. Therapy! Astrology! Sound baths! Crystals! Do it all. When we venture to know ourselves better, we can be better to ourselves and to others along the way. We can unf*ck our lives by way of seeking enlightenment.

8. Kindness counts! There’s a guy at work who is always in a bad mood (or so it seems). He makes negative remarks, sarcastic comments, and often behaves in an ornery way. I just don’t get it. But, I’ve learned to disarm him and his constantly foul mood by smiling through it, and offering simple, unfailing kindness. Not countering or reacting to his attacks leaves him baffled. I’ve unf*cked that part of my day by cutting his coarse people skills out the equation.

9. Make a list every morning. Cross things off that list like a boss all day long. It feels good to be productive because accomplishing anything (even the small things) helps us feel functional.

10. Don’t be a food hoarder. We can spend less by simply purchasing the amount of food we need and nothing more. Fresh vegetables in season. Meats from a local farm. It’s actually good to run out of food by the end of the week. It means we’re using it all and being mindful of waste. Do you know food hoarders? I do. They go to Costco and they load up on large quantities of food and they think they’re spending less, but all they’re really doing is storing way too much food in their freezers. This adds to their clutter which often produces anxiety over “using things up” so they don’t go to waste. Run out of food so you have to go shopping. “Make do” for a few days with what you’ve got in your cabinets before shopping day. It’s a great way to cut waste.

11. Have a do nothing day. Every once in a while, do nothing. No cleaning, no errands, no yardwork, no shopping. No nothing! Walk, take a nap, read a book, spin some records on the console, lie in the hammock. It’s important to empty ourselves out so we can fill up again.

12. We can make amends. Reach out. Do the thing you don’t want to do, which is talk about something that has been on your mind for quite some time. We can bridge the gap and connect again when we are feeling disconnected. Making amends is about bringing good (fresh, clean, better) energy into our lives.

The path to unf*cking our lives is revealed when we let go of the stuff that keeps us stuck in place. Seriously, No More F*cking Around.

Let these 12 ways propel you on the journey to a happier state of being!
