Has the rising Full Moon in Scorpio foreshadowed anything in your life yet?
The other night I dreamt of a river I’m familiar with from my childhood, and to no surprise, as I’m a triple Scorpio who’s continually in flow. Each full moon brings specific dreams to me, according to the astrological sign it’s traversing.
If you’re interested in such dreams or lunar astral travel, I suggest dedicating a journal to each full moon of the year—you may be surprised by what is revealed because our psyche and emotions are intrinsically connected to lunar activity.
This is also Beltaine season, the Celtic fire celebration of fertility, abundance, and nature’s height of fecundity. On the Pagan calendar, True Beltaine—halfway between Spring Equinox and Summer Solstice, when the Sun is at 15% Taurus—marks the beginning of Summer. Celebrated by the ancients at the full moon for reasons of practicality and by way of counting the passing months, Beltaine, like Samhain, is a time of the thinning of the veil, when we come close to the other side, our ancestors, the Fey, and mysteries of the unseen.
May’s full moon is a portal for understanding ourselves as Nature. It is highly charged with potential as the Goddess and the Green Man unite in a marriage of masculine life force and the feminine receptive principle. Occurring during grounding and earthy Taurus season, Lunar Beltaine awakens watery themes within, and the nurturing aspect of the Goddess/Earth Mother.
For some, at Lunar Beltaine, especially those with Cancer as sun, moon or rising sign, the Mother archetype becomes an ally and a teacher. Do look where Cancer lands in your natal chart for information on which house this moon will affect you. Mother is a powerful, universal energy carrying potent soul lessons ranging from your relationship with the Earth to that of your earthly mother as well as your body—the mother container to your soul.
How can you relate to each with more presence and resonance and what meaning does it hold in your life?
Water signs are especially affected at full moons, as inner tides rise and fall, carrying our emotions along the waves. I find that curiosity about those emotions and any triggers they present is much gentler than trying to untangle the knots. Easier to let that element carry things away. A Scorpio moon will try its best to beckon you into a boat headed for the Underworld. It’s up to you to know if the journey will benefit you, or whether there’s nothing left to unearth about past circumstances. Shadow work may be your path this moon, just keep it in perspective by honoring the light in your life. Peek into where Scorpio resides in your chart, this will be the area of flow affected three days before, the day of, and three days following the fullness, or it may be a longer communion.
While Taurus season brings stability, Uranus in Taurus opposite the full moon can release the unexpected, which means recognizing what you can control, what requires flexibility and that “not knowing” is a form of wisdom. Tapping into community for reciprocal support is recommended this moon, as mirrored by the old Beltaine custom of relying on a central fire to re-ignite the hearth fire.
What is a fire you can ignite in your life, a vision, or a passion perhaps?
How are you supported by those in your community, and how can you be of service to others?
Trusting in community can be scary, especially if we have been betrayed in some form before. Practicing vulnerability builds courage to trust in the goodness of others and the world we live in; a good first step is allowing someone to trust us.
Ritual and Spell Work
A full moon, and especially a Beltaine Scorpio moon practically screams sex magic! Whether practicing alone or with another/others, sex magic, fertility rites, and money magic are de rigueur. Our ancestors would disappear into the woods in playful pursuits, celebrating love and passion. Spiritual communion with a deity and purification rites are also appropriate at Lunar Beltaine.
Goddesses to call upon this moon include Freya, Brigid, Aphrodite, and the May Queen. The Green Man, Bel, and Pan are some God associations. The meeting of the inner masculine and feminine, and the intention of unity is illuminated by this month’s full moon.
As with any full moon, seek clarity and practice gratitude. If you are a person practicing the Old Ways, or looking for a way to have a meaningful relationship with the moon, nature, and yourself, presence is key. Just like the Wise Ones of centuries gone by, we do not necessarily need an online ephemeris to firm that relationship—follow your instincts and the moon’s journey across the tapestry of your life by looking up, noticing the phases, and inhaling the energy around you. This is a visceral way to be part of the cosmos, to understand yourself as the magical creature that you are.
Full Moon in Scorpio Intonation
I am a creature of the universe, aligned with the movement of the planets. I learn about myself by observing the waxing and waning of Luna, and am present to my needs. I seek clarity and am open to the supportive medicine of this full moon.
Blessed be.
