“You are not ready to see gluten-free, vegan, autistic people, or trans.”

Pre-judgement—you know, prejudice—is easy. It’s fun. It feels powerful. Because you’re not having to do any work, you’re not having to exercise the muscle of your brain or heart or openmindedness—you’re just feeling superior, and angry, which is to the psyche what pleasurable cheap greasy fast food is to the gut.

Bad.

“Is that “doctor” Stella Emmanuel? She’s an anti vax, pro ivermectin, Christian fraud.” ~ a comment

“Ah yes, Stella Immanuel, MD, the nation’s top prescriber of hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin. A Stable Genius, to be sure.”

“When I was a child in the 70s, I knew someone with a serious food allergy. It’s always been, we’re just more aware now.”

“My celiac-having-ass would’ve just been constantly sick, skinny and malnourished, as well as probably died young due to stomach cancer before the diagnosis was mainstream. There’s evidence of people having celiac from 2,000 years ago…”

“Exactly. History of Celiac Disease here, going back to 2nd Century AD.”

“This response is great. Too many times these days we respond to ignorance with short tempers or outright hostility. Everyone on both sides of an argument about cultural differences needs to realize that, what makes one happy isn’t right for another. The understanding and explanation of this response is well said and without hate. We should all strive to be this patient and understanding with each other no matter the difference. Be understanding not intolerant.”

“The irony of a woman of color glorifying the past is way out there. “In my day we didn’t have…” You know what you didn’t have? Equal rights. Yet here you march your dime store diploma around trying to make everyone and everything around you the problem.”

“When I was diagnosed with Celiac disease, a friend of mine recounted the story of how his grandfather had a colostomy performed because of an inflammatory intestinal condition that was many years later diagnosed as Celiac.

I’ll take my gluten-free diet, thanks.”

“Nobody was vegan in MY day” veganism dates back at least a fucking millennium.”
