Never thought I’d leave, particularly. I built and invested in it to last, not to please current cheap trends. A 40-foot reclaimed built treehouse, two story, with stained glass and a patio and a deck and stairs. Solar. Backs to a park, that backs to a park, and a school. A green carpet to the Flatirons, which you can see from our couch and our bed, both, an uninterrupted view that can never be blocked (thank you dear Mattie Dean Park). A finished attic. A white metal roof keeps the house cool. Great eco insulation throughout the house. Restored lath and plaster, not cheap and often toxic drywall. A large basement that could be converted to a rental. A basketball hoop on the alley, on the park, where I park my EV and charge it up. A bike shed, with stained glass. A hot tub. Three arbors/torii gates, custom built. A small garage for storage, hanging, or parking one of those car things. Another space through the garage for a third car, if you’re that kind of person. I’ve added 55 windows, literally, including in doors, and ceilings, over the years—so it’s a light-filled house. So many fun details. See the photos.
It’s a happy-sad moment.
My wife and I have to move to share custody of her dear sweet silly smart caring son. That part is happy. New adventures.
Leaving home, my hometown, my birthplace, with all its memories and present joys both, at every corner…sad, right now.
But: it will help greatly to sell the house quickly, to caring wonderful folks, whomever falls in love with it, so we can buy a new home and move and be with her son more. So please share up the Zillow link with any friends or community who might want to move.
Thank you.
PS: for those remarking on the sale price, I get it. Boulder is crazy priced. Folks can barely afford to live here. I bought the house 18.5 years with no money in my account, nothing down. Because I could see my dear Boulder getting pricey. I nearly got foreclosed on, 3 years in, and escaped barely thanks to my entrepreneurship, Obama helping folks get back in their houses with coaching during the recession, and my social media holding CitiBank to account. Anyways…I’ve got a big mortgage. Capital gains, realtor fees, and a new house to buy. But yes: having refused to sell out on Elephant, even when it was huge or I needed the money, this will be my nest egg for our family’s future.
